Jimi Hendrix, Voodoo Gypsy

In 1959, James Marshall Hendrix enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper, which is appropriate, because his style was so revolutionary that in hindsight, he seemingly dropped from the azure overly armed with a guitar and blazed a trail followed by a era of players.

After being released from the Army, Hendrix cut his teeth on the “Chitlin’ Circuit,” a string of clubs in the South so named because they served chitlins’ and other soul food. He was employed as lead guitarist by blues singer/harmonica player Slim Harpo, soul singer/guitarist Curtis Mayfield, rhythm and blues singer Sam Cooke, and rock and roll singer/piano player Little Richard, among others. These varied apprenticeships fed the wellspring from which Hendrix’ musical vision flowed. Looking to step out of the shadows and into the limelight, Hendrix moved to New York’s Greenwich Village, where he fronted his own band, Jimmy James and the Blue Flames. While playing a gig at the Cafe Wha?, Hendrix was discovered by Chas Chandler, bassist of the Animals, who brought Hendrix to London and became his manager. Upon his arrival in England, Hendrix changed the spelling of his first name to “Jimi,” and formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience, with Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums.

In the early days of the Experience, Jimi began playing a Fender Stratocaster. While sitting in with Cream, he first plugged into a Marshall, which then became his amplifier of choice. Among the vanguard in the use of effects pedals, Hendrix used Crybaby and Vox Wah Wahs, a Uni-Vibe, and a Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face to articulate his trademark distortion drenched leads. These musical engines fueled Jimi’s journey into the rock and roll stratosphere.

The band’s debut album asked the question “Are You Experienced?,” and the answer was that no one had ever experienced anything like it. “Foxey Lady,” “Fire,” “The Wind Cries Mary,” and “Hey Joe” are among the classic songs that have since become psychedelic rock standards. The LSD influenced “Purple Haze” featured the Octavia, a guitar effect invented by Roger Mayer that mixed the instrument’s original note with a tone an octave higher. The title song was driven by an overdubbed, backwards guitar solo that took the listener on a musical acid trip.

In June of 1967, the Experience performed at the Monterey International Pop Festival on the recommendation of Paul McCartney. Their set included covers of Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” B.B. King’s “Rock Me Baby,” and the Troggs’ “Wild Thing.” Following The Who on stage, Jimi was looking for a way to top Pete Townshend’s guitar smashing finale, “My Generation.” Before the show, Hendrix searched the crowd for a bottle of lighter fluid, which he used to set his guitar ablaze, at the conclusion of “Fire.” With his virtuosic musicianship and outlandish stage theatrics, Hendrix amazed the Monterey audience, heralding his triumphant return to America.

Jimi’s second album, “Axis: Bold as Love,” expanded the lyrical and musical universe he had created. “Up from the Skies” was a science fiction themed single with jazzy, wah wah inflected rhythm and lead parts. A Leslie speaker gave the slow, wistful “Little Wing” a liquid tonal quality. “If 6 Was 9″ voiced the hippie street politics of the Sixties, and “Bold as Love” was colored by a studio produced phasing effect that transported the listener into outer space.

While recording “Electric Ladyland,” Hendrix augmented his musical palette with the addition of various instrumentalists. Keyboard player Steve Winwood and Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady jammed on “Voodoo Chile,” drummer Buddy Miles sat in on “Rainy Day, Dream Away” and “Still Raining, Still Dreaming,” Al Kooper played piano on “Long Hot Summer Night,” and guitarist Dave Mason strummed rhythm on Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.” The album closed with “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” a masterpiece which captured the essence of Jimi’s improvisational spirit.

After the “Ladyland” sessions, Noel Redding left the band, and was replaced by Jimi’s Army buddy, bassist Billy Cox. Mitch Mitchell remained on drums, while guitarist Larry Lee and percussionists Juma Sultan and Jerry Velez were added. This group, named Gypsy Sun and Rainbows, backed Hendrix at Woodstock. On a stunning version of “The Star Spangled Banner,” Hendrix artfully manipulated the Strat’s whammy bar to replicate the sound and fury of “the bombs bursting in air and the rockets’ red glare.”

On December 31st, 1969, Hendrix celebrated New Year’s Eve by playing a concert at the Fillmore East with the Band of Gypsys. Flanked by Billy Cox and Buddy Miles, Jimi tore through a set highlighted by “Machine Gun,” a Vietnam protest song in which Hendrix’ Uni-Vibe laced guitar lines and Miles’ military drum bursts simulated the sounds of battle.

Hendrix then formed the second Jimi Hendrix Experience with Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell. This trio embarked upon a tour which included an appearance at the Isle of Wight, where they played the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” and “Red House,” Jimi’s signature slow blues composition. “Freedom,” “Angel,” “Room Full of Mirrors,” and “Dolly Dagger” are among the unfinished sketches posthumously released on “First Rays of the New Rising Sun,” the album Hendrix was in the process of recording before he died on September 18th, 1970.

Although his flame was extinguished at the early age of twenty seven, Jimi Hendrix’ revolutionary guitar pyrotechnics ignited an inferno that still rages through the heart and soul of rock and roll.

Jazz bass refers to the use of stand-in bass or bass guitar to in and effect extemporaneously and solos in a jazz or jazz fusion style. The connotation and sound of the clone bass are discrete from that of a usual guitar. The bass guitar creates a bizarre sound than the double-dealing bass, since bass guitars typically have a rational wood body, owing to which the sound is generated by electronic amplification of the tremor of the strings. The twofold bass the modulate is of its hollow body. This difference in resonance is completely evident if one listens to bent over bass on jazz midi files.

The double bass first came to be used in the 1890s to render the low-pitched walking bass lines which sketched out the synchronization of the music. Timbered resonance of the double bass has characterized everything from Swing and big band era, all the way through Bebop and Hard Bop period, to the 1960s ‘free jazz’ movement. In the 1970s, few of the jazz fusion bands started to surrogate the electric bass guitar for the double bass.

Learn Jazz Bass Lines Online Like the rest of the jazz music, jazz bass is also characteristically spontaneous in nature. Strictly, practice jazz bass lines to become an expert from being a mere lover of jazz. One gets tremendous practice by working with Jazz MIDI files which are easily available online. After all one does not need striking notes to sound good. You need control over the basic notes.

The beginners often want to improvise - they need new concepts and material to make their lines more exciting and trendy. The truth is one should know the basics first. Therefore, I will suggest just practice jazz bass lines along with the jazz midi files. Listening and playing in this manner will also improve one’s musical ear.

One may initially play simple chords rather than 7th chord. The evolution will work with easy triads (3 note chords). For example, instead of playing Fmaj7, just play an F chord.

Once one has mastered a set of pitches, only then will he or she will be able to create or improvise with this material. Shortly one will be able to craft unruffled chord progressions. Furthermore, soon one will sound considerably inspired and original.

Green Day - Jesus of Suburbia
Author: managestarted

Posted in Uncategorized

The final celibate disappointing Green Day’s rock-operatic album American Idiot is Jesus of Suburbia. To discern the performance Jesus of Suburbia it is first decisive to understand that American Idiot was created as a cohesive outcrop-opera in the pattern pioneered by The Who. Jesus of Suburbia is the protagonist of the generally album and the bother itself is a chronicling of this disaffected youth’s life and times.

Since Jesus of Suburbia stands for all young rebels he is not given a name and he hails from Jingletown, USA. He is the child of a divorced mother and dates a girl called Whatshername. He spent most of his time watching TV, doing drugs and just hanging around - and was fed as the song states a “steady diet of soda pop and Ritalin. Even with his okay life, this young punk feels trapped and bored in his hometown and wants to get away from it all. As such, by the end of the song, he decides to leave Jingletown, USA to explore The City. What he does in the city is described in detail in the rest of the album - especially in the songs Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

This conceptual song is made up of five parts and runs a whopping nine minutes long although for radio broadcast it was cut down to about six-and-a-half minutes. The five different parts are actually five different songs transitioned together. They are:

- Jesus of Suburbia - City of the Damned - I Don’t Care - Dearly Beloved - Tales of Another Broken Home

Released only one month ago on October 25, 2005 the song has yet to prove its shelf life. Although its unusual length means that it might only see limited airplay given its content and the fact that it is a thematic conclusion to Green Day’s biggest album to date, it would be very surprising indeed if the song did not see at least some success.

The video for the single was planned as a mini-movie with the original video running a staggering fourteen minutes long with scripted dialogue while the shorter more airplay-friendly version sticks to the original song content and format. The director of the video was Samuel Bayer and it stars Lou-Tayler Pucci - a relatively unknown actor of Indie movie fame who has started to see his star rise lately thanks to such film releases as Thumbsucker and The Chumscrubber.

The members of Green Day are especially well place to comment on the plight of the youth of the nation. Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt grew up knowing first hand the hardships of living in a single parent family. When Billie Joe’s father passed away when the charismatic lead singer was only ten years old his mother was left to care for him and his five siblings on a waitress’ salary. Mike Dirnt’s parents were divorced when he was seven and he lived with his mother who worked three jobs to support them. As a result he never saw her. Jesus of Suburbia is definitely a nod to their past and a shout-out to their fans many of whom probably come from very similar backgrounds as their heroes.

American Idiot is a revolution in punk-rock music making and marks a turning point for Green Day; with this rich album they have effectively catapulted themselves to the next level of their careers.

Little Known Dating tips, Secrets and Dating Mistakes…
Author: managestarted

Posted in Uncategorized

I hear it throughout and over—“It was flourishing so great, and then she disappeared on me… why? What happened—we were having such a weighty time together. I’m knocked out of this happening—I longing to age rough women, but I want them to drop around. Do you have any dating tips notwithstanding me?

Yes, I do. Every time I talk to a guy who tells me this, I discover he’s making the exact same mistakes most guys do, dating mistakes that kill his chances of successfully dating sexy women. So, I give him some dating tips to skyrocket his success with sexy women. Here are the most common ones:

Dating tip #1: Don’t date. Yes, that’s right—don’t date. Think about a traditional “date—it’s full of pressure, awkwardness, evaluation and it just plain sucks. What do you do on a “traditional date? Dinner, movie, kiss goodnight, she doesn’t return your calls. Or you have drinks, and try to “make your move, and we all know where that ends up. Much better (and cheaper) to meet for coffee—it’s fun and relaxed with none of the normal dating expectations.

Dating tip #2: The less you do and say, the more she’s attracted to you. Most guys try to impress sexy women, or “lay a rap on them. Sexy women have heard it all before. But, if you ask her about herself, shut up and listen, and display a SMALL degree of interest, she’ll begin to wonder why you’re not slobbering all over her. She’ll want to discover more… now you’re a challenge, and sexy women love challenging guys. Why? Because they rarely meet one. This is a HUGE dating tip.

Dating tip #3 Be a “naughty little boy. Another big dating tip. Remember the “class clown in elementary school—the guy who was “cool and funny all at the same time? When you’re talking to sexy women, make unexpected and mischievous comments, the kind that leave them thinking, “I can’t believe he just said that… but I like it. This shows sexy women you’re NOT impressed by their looks, that you need to see more. This is so different from what they’re used to they can’t help but be attracted. I cannot emphasize the importance of this dating tip.

Dating tip #4 Avoid all canned pick up lines, “laying a rap, or any type of “acting. Sexy women have heard it all before, and as soon as you spout one, you’re instantly a JAG (just another guy). And JAG’s don’t get sexy women—remember this dating tip!

Dating tip #5 Sexy women are approached and hit on 20 to 30 times a day. This is their world—to get into it, you have to be different from the 20 guys who’ve already talked to her. (see Dating tip #3 for how to be different to sexy women).

Dating tip #6 Look out for her tests. Sexy women (indeed, all women) will test you to see if you’ll stand up to them. If you can’t stand up to her, you can’t stand up for her. If she asks you to buy her things, that’s a test—and a perfect opportunity to be a “naughty little boy (see Dating tip #3). Say something like, “What do I look like an ATM machine? You should buy ME something, just for the privilege of spending time with me. I like sexy women who buy me things! This is said in a playful—yet firm—manner that lets her know you’re onto her. When you pass their tests, it drives sexy women wild with desire. Very important dating tip.

Dating tip #7 Date multiple sexy women at once, and make sure the others know about it. Sexy women love a man who is attractive to other sexy women, and will compete to “win you. (Here’s another dating tip: for proof of this, read any good romance novel). If you want to settle down, you can choose one, but she will always know you’re desired by other sexy women—and in a strange way, this creates even more attraction for you. This dating tip really is a secret, but it works very well with sexy women.

OK, guys, that’s it for this article. Obviously there are lots of other dating tips, tricks and secrets to put to use, but if you pay attention to these dating tips, you’ll be a heckuva lot more successful with sexy women. Now, go re-read all the dating tips!

On with the fun…
